Only a little over a week till I'm off to London! I am so excited, I can't even sit straight!
For those of you who don't know (I'm betting most of you do though), I will be an international student in London, England for 3½ months! I am a student at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, majoring in Marketing and International Business. I am starting this blog to document this monumental adventure I am about to embark on and for friends and family to live this experience with me. I am dedicating everything I write to my fiancĂ©, Ben, who has been very supportive of this trip and is excited to see me finally living out my dream.
Because this is my first blogging experience EVER, let me give everyone a little background on my decision to go to London......lets flashback about 11 years...
Now, I know some of you will think this is super lame, but don’t judge too much. When I was nine, my best friend, Sarah, started reading the Harry Potter series. Now, being two years younger, I had to do what the cool older kids were doing, so I started reading the series as well. I completely fell in love with the concept of the book; children being taken away to a magical place to learn about a secret world, it’s every kid’s fantasy!
So I, like many others, waited for my Hogwarts letter to come-obviously, it never did (or did it?), and I looked for other ways to keep connected to the story. I soon fell in love with the setting of the books, England. At age 13, my parents took a notice to my obsession and I soon found out that much of my heritage is English; this was the moment I realized I had to see it for myself.
So there you have it, the driving force. Harry Potter. Now, being much older, I can see the other positives to this culturally fascinating city and I now have 1,000 and 1 other reasons for going, but at the basis, there Harry lies.
I will also have an internship while abroad, which is such a great opportunity. I can't wait to see how other cultures interact in business settings. This is going to be such an eye opener, hope everyone is ready for an adventure cus I sure am!
One last note before I go.........just found out yesterday that my fiancé, Ben will be able to visit me in London during his spring break!!! I am so happy, I could cry, well, I kinda already did!!
Love from London (well almost),
B
